Pillows, popcorn and plenty of love at Shooting Star

February 11, 2026

2026 has begun with two brilliant drop‑in events that have brought families together for creativity, relaxation and a welcome dose of joy.

Our first wellness drop-in of the year set a wonderfully positive tone. On 17 January, families joined in for a morning of hands‑on creativity, crafting plush pillows, designing miniature zen gardens with stones and sand, and making their own “positive popcorn” treats.

A volunteer hairdresser added to the feel‑good atmosphere, offering fresh cuts and styles that were very gratefully received. The morning rounded off with sweet treats lovingly prepared by the kitchen team.

Five families attended, with several children and young people staying in‑house at Christopher’s, popping down to join the fun. It was a warm and hopeful start to the year, and a reminder of the power of simple moments shared together.

Love was very much in the air at our Valentine’s drop‑in at Shooting Star House, where heart‑themed crafts took centre stage. On 7 February, families came together to create love‑letter envelopes, decorated heart and flower mirrors, shaped tinfoil hearts and made colourful paper chains.

For those feeling adventurous, shaving foam and paint offered a wonderfully messy way to get creative, resulting in some fantastic abstract art pieces. The room was full of busy hands, smiling faces and a real sense of togetherness.

Eight families attended, making it a lively and joy‑filled morning and a lovely way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
