At Shooting Star, we are proud to celebrate the dedication and expertise of our staff, whose work makes a lasting difference to children with life-limiting conditions and their families we support every day.
This summer, two members of our care team have received special recognition for their outstanding contributions, highlighting the exceptional talent and commitment that exists across our organisation.
Tracie Lewin-Taylor, Nurse Consultant & Head of SPACE and Community, has been shortlisted for both Nurse of the Year and Nurse Leader of the Year at the Nursing Times Awards 2025. The Nursing Times Awards bring together the nursing community to celebrate innovation, leadership and clinical excellence across nursing and midwifery, recognising individuals and teams who are making a significant impact within the profession.
Reflecting on her achievement, Tracie said:
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been nominated and shortlisted for both Nurse of the Year and Nurse Leader of the Year in this year’s Nursing Times Awards. To be recognised in this way is a privilege that I do not take lightly.
These nominations are a reflection not only on my own journey but also of the incredible colleagues, mentors and teams I have had the opportunity to work alongside. Their support, encouragement and shared commitment to delivering outstanding patient care have inspired me every step of the way.
Nursing is more than a profession, it’s a calling built on compassion, leadership, innovation and advocacy. I am proud to be part of the care team workforce at Shooting Star where we strive every day to improve the lives of children, young people and their families.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who nominated me. Whatever the outcome, being shortlisted for these prestigious awards is an honour in itself, and I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of nurses and nurse leaders in our profession.”
In a further recognition of the impact our staff have on children and families, Regina Legarte, one of our Music Therapists, has been presented with a Big Heart Award by children’s disability charity Fostering Together, a specialist independent fostering provider for children with disabilities and complex medical needs.
Regina was nominated for her work supporting a young person, Zoe, through music therapy. The Big Heart Award recognises professionals and wider teams whose care, expertise and support make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and families.
Representatives from Fostering Together visited Christopher’s to present Regina with her award. Speaking after receiving the honour, Regina said:
“I’m honoured to receive this award. It has been such a joy to work with Zoe and her family, and it means a lot that this is coming from them.”
These achievements reflect the remarkable skill and compassion of our staff, who go above and beyond every day to support children, young people and families across our communities. Whether through outstanding nursing leadership or the transformative power of therapeutic care, Tracie and Regina embody the values at the heart of Shooting Star, and we are delighted to celebrate their well-deserved recognition.
