From the capital of Scotland to the capital of England and even the skies of Salisbury, our wonderful intrepid supporters were out in force this weekend taking part in various challenges to raise money for their local children’s hospice charity.
The excitement began with a group of eight brave Shooting Star Children’s Hospices supporters who proved the sky really is the limit as they took part in our tandem skydive on Saturday 25 May. The team was made up of friends Sharon, Hazel and Sharon, as well as our very own Maggie who is Activities Co-ordinator Volunteer at our Guildford hospice, Christopher’s. The ladies were joined by Michael, Josh, Nick and Ben whose brother is supported by us. The guys all work for one of our Corporate Partner’s Barclay Simpson, who have kindly said they will match fund the sponsorship money they raise!
Arriving at the airfield near Salisbury, the team enjoyed the friendly and encouraging atmosphere on the ground, before reaching new heights in fundraising! With bright blue skies and hardly any clouds the team took on the epic challenge with ease, all landing safety after the ultimate adrenaline rush!
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were represented up in Scotland on Sunday, as local Guildford mum Carly Corrigall took part in the Edinburgh Marathon. Carly has so far raised a wonderful £640. This was Carly’s first distance event in over 10 years and she finished in a very impressive 3 hours and 36 minutes. Go Carly!
And last, but by no means least are our valiant Vitality London team of runners, who sacrificed the usual bank holiday Monday lie in to take part in the 10k race through the heart of London.
The team of 16 runners started and finished in Green Park, enjoying the beautiful backdrop of the capital, including Buckingham Palace. Our team included supported family members, Corporate Partners and serial #TeamShootingStar runners.
We simply couldn’t provide the vital care that’s so desperately needed to families across London and Surrey without our phenomenal supporters – we can’t thank you all enough! And if our triumphant team of challengers have inspired you to take something on, why not have a look at our events calendar, chock full of challenges for all abilities!
