Thames Sailability provides accessible boating for wheelchair users.
Thames Sailability’s specially adapted motorboat, “Impossible Dream”, allows its passengers to enjoy boating on the Thames. They have a boarding ramp for access by users of wheelchairs, powered chairs, and people with reduced mobility, and a safe covered cabin area….with central heating!
Impossible Dream sails all year round and has skilled and trained crew to help us.
We are offering this to children and young people who would benefit from this as a sensory experience.
The sound of the water lapping the front of the boat, the wildlife that we pass, and maybe even the rain on the roof of the Impossible Dream’s awning.
Space is limited so we are offering space for 2 wheelchair users and a parent or carer each. There is an opportunity to transfer onto a bench or chair if that is appropriate but rest assured chairs can board the board and stay on for the duration of the trip.
Whilst on the boat, we ask that the young person and carer remains seated at all times, for safety reasons this is very important. We will review all the RSVPs and ensure that our care team are in agreement that this event is safe for you to attend.
We can’t wait to see you there. If you are not sure if this event is for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me: caroline.brett-field@shootingstar.org.uk.
