Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex joined staff and volunteers on Wednesday 9 December to help our Hampton Hill charity shop prepare for Christmas.
The Countess, who is our Royal Patron, spoke to staff and volunteers about their experiences of the pandemic and the impact on the shop, as well as helping to sort donations and create a festive window display.
Karen Sugarman MBE, Executive Vice-President of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, said, “It was so wonderful to welcome The Countess of Wessex to our Hampton Hill shop and for her to generously give some of her time to help the team prepare the shop ahead of the busy festive period. Retail has been one of many areas hit very hard this year, so we are really pleased we’ve been able to open some of our shops and offer amazing pre-loved items to the local community whilst they support their local children’s hospice charity.”
In February this year, The Countess visited Shooting Star House, our Hampton based hospice to meet some of the supported children and their families. Despite the hospice being temporarily closed from a care perspective, families who live in one of the 15 boroughs of London we work across, have continued to receive care and support at the our Surrey based hospice, Christopher’s, as well as practical and emotional support virtually and online.
By shopping at one of the hospices’ shops you can help make every moment count for families facing the unimaginable and help ensure Shooting Star Children’s Hospices can continue to be a lifeline to families, now and in the future.
Our shops play a vital role in helping us fund our care service. You can find more details about our shops, including opening hours here.
