Inaugural Shooting Star Corporate Cup kicks off

June 11, 2024

In an afternoon of fierce competition, 16 teams went head-to-head in the inaugural Shooting Star Corporate Cup tournament, with the hope of lifting the trophy in celebration.

Our corporate supporters, new and established, teamed up to participate in the round-robin style, five-a-side competition, with action unfolding on the field at Walton Xcel Sports Hub on 6 June.

Over 120 goals were scored, not including the two exciting penalty shootouts, with Team ATI triumphing in an exciting final vs. Team Ringway, winning 3:1.

Teams were cheered on by spectators who were in the stands, adding to the atmosphere of the day.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Chief Executive, Paul Farthing, gave a speech to the players after the competition came to a close before presenting the trophy to the winning team.

The inaugural event raised an incredible £11,500 from team entry fees, team fundraising, and a great raffle, with prizes donated by Ellis Wines, Megan’s, Silent Pool Distillery, Kingswood Golf Club and Richmond Hill Hotel.

We also want to thank Pelican Procurement who provided the refreshments in goodie bags to keep the players happy and hydrated.

The amount fundraised will go towards supporting families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or who have been bereaved, across Surrey, south-west London and north-west London.

One football player said the Shooting Star Corporate Cup was a “fantastic event.”

Another stated, “I enjoy a good kick around and it’s even better if it’s for a good cause. I very much enjoyed myself. I highly recommend it to other companies and colleagues.”

Anne Carey, Lead Corporate Engagement Manager at Shooting Star said, “The inaugural Shooting Star Corporate Cup was a huge success and we can’t wait for next year’s event, which we hope will be even bigger and better.

“Thanks to all the wonderful teams who took part and put life and limb on the line for Shooting Star and the chance to win the Corporate Cup.”
