Scouts Troop
A truly special milestone was reached at the end of last year, when six young people were officially enrolled into our new Shooting Star Scout Troop.
Held at our Guildford hospice, Christopher’s, the Troop aims to give supported children and young people the opportunity to experience the fun and friendship Scouting can offer.
Open to young people from 6 to 21, the Troop has been established in partnership with St Nicholas 9th Guildford Scout Group, and is led by Ginny Hancock, Physiotherapist at Shooting Star. Ginny brings her Scouting experience as a Cub leader in Sutton, together with her understanding of adjustments that can be made, so every young person can feel welcome, take part and thrive.
St Nicolas 9th Guildford provides governance and administrative support, with additional help from adult volunteers and young leaders who assist at the monthly meetings.

The investiture ceremony was a proud and joyful occasion, attended by our Chief Executive, Paul Farthing, alongside Helen Marsh and Josh Goodwin, Chair and former Group Scout leader of St Nicolas 9th Guildford – a fitting celebration of a partnership built to open up Scouting to everyone.
Ginny said, “Seeing our young people proudly make their Scout promise was incredibly special. Scouting is all about belonging, trying new things and having fun and that’s exactly what we want to offer here at Shooting Star. It’s a huge privilege to help create a space where every young person, whatever their needs, can join in, feel valued and experience the magic of being part of a troop.”
Scouting at Shooting Star is designed to be as accessible as possible and focuses on making reasonable adjustments to activities, badges and awards to ensure everyone can participate and thrive. This includes working with parents and carers to understand individual needs and provide appropriate support. The main priority is to make sure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable to take part.
