Summer festival drop-in at Shooting Star House
Our August Summer Festival event welcomed 77 family members to Shooting Star House for a morning filled with sunshine and family fun. With the warm weather allowing everyone to make the most of our beautiful gardens, families spent time relaxing together while enjoying ice creams, candy floss and a fruit bar. There was something for everyone, with activities including headband and bracelet making, music-making, face painting and bubble play, creating a fun festival atmosphere at our hospice.
The event transformed Shooting Star House into a vibrant festival space, giving families the opportunity to relax, connect and have fun. From enjoying delicious ice cream and cotton candy in the summer sunshine to getting stuck into a range of arts and crafts activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
A particular highlight of the event was a lively performance from local ukulele group, the New Malden Mugs, whose upbeat music brought families together to enjoy the occasion. It was especially heartwarming to see many of our life-limited children engaging with the music, with live performances offering an inclusive and accessible way for them to participate and connect.
Lucy Isherwood, Groups and Events Programme Lead, said: “It was wonderful to see the hospice gardens full of families enjoying time together, making memories and getting involved in all the activities on offer. The live music, ice cream truck and festival atmosphere created such a lovely sense of fun and community, and it was incredibly rewarding to see so many children and families smiling, connecting and simply enjoying being together.”
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success, especially our staff, volunteers, performers and supporters. We loved seeing so many smiling faces and can’t wait to do it all again next year!
