A round of golf can be a leisurely way to spend an afternoon; however pro golfer Luke Willett will be par from relaxed as he takes on a unique golfing challenge in aid of local children’s hospice charity Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

On Saturday 15th February at 3pm, Burhill Golf Club in Hersham will play host to a special fundraiser – The Iron Golfer Challenge – where Luke Willett will attempt to complete 36 holes, the two courses at Burhill in under 2 hours.

The local community are invited to come along to show support and cheer Luke on as he makes his way round the two courses to raise money for us!

The challenge will mark the end of a year of fabulous fundraising by the club, who have been supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices as their Captain’s Charity of the Year. Club Captain’s Temi Kapo and Alexandra Jamison have held numerous fundraising days throughout 2019 – with one day raising a phenomenal £25,000 alone.

The club hope Luke’s challenge will be equally as successful with lots of opportunities for people to sponsor Luke, guess his overall time and score, as well as a chance to win special prizes including golfing vouchers to play the course, golfing lessons and more in return for donations.

Luke Willett, PGA Professional said, “Given how old the sport of golf is, and that Burhill Golf Club is 113 years old it is rare for new records to be made. It’s exciting to hopefully be a part of history in the making, playing golf faster than it has ever been played on Burhill’s two championship courses. It will be great for people to join the club in supporting me over the line or to witness the spectacle unfold – everyone’s welcome!”

Ellie Constable, Community Fundraiser at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said, “The Iron Golfer Challenge sounds absolutely fantastic and is a great way to finish Temi and Alexandra’s year of captaincy. We are so grateful for everything they have done for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices over the last year and can’t wait to see how Luke gets on. We urge people to come along and get involved on the 15th February! Every penny raised will go on to help families we support across Surrey and London.”
