Shooting Star Chase run siblings groups for siblings of life-limited children and bereaved siblings of all ages. These groups contain fun activities and opportunities to explore and share their feelings in a safe environment. Bereaved sibling days are held 3 – 4 times a year for brothers and sisters known to both Shooting Star House and Christopher’s.Click Photography offered to run a photography workshop for the group of 12 siblings. Each child was given their own camera, DSLRs for the older ones in the group and compact cameras for the younger ones. Following a tutorial from Philip and Sheridan from Click, the group were tasked with finding and capturing images of all sorts of different objects around the palace grounds and inside.
Despite the wintry gloom all of the children approached the challenge with glee, capturing some wonderful photos of the beautiful surroundings. It also proved a great way for them to interact with each other, sharing tips and photos throughout the morning.
The group then returned to our Hampton hospice, Shooting Star House, to take part in a therapeutic activity where they were asked to think of a time with their brother or sister who had died. After careful contemplation, they all shared some precious moments from their memory and using creative materials with our Play Therapist, recreated these moments with art materials and props from the therapy rooms.
The day ended with some fun in the Hydrotherapy Pool and some sweet treats dipped in a chocolate fountain.
Days like this wouldn’t be possible without the help of our hugely supportive volunteers – so a massive thanks to all who were involved. A special thanks must also go to Philip and Sheridan from Click Photography Workshop giving their time and expertise and to Hampton Court Palace for letting the budding photographer’s loose on the historical setting. We provide an extensive range of counselling, therapies and support groups for the whole family including parents, siblings and grandparents.
