Team Shooting Star shines at the London Marathon 2025, raising over £208,000!

May 2, 2025

Team Shooting Star soared across the finish line, with 56 incredible runners taking on the 2025 TCS London Marathon and raising a phenomenal £208,000 (and counting) for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

The team did an incredible job, running in unseasonably warm weather to complete the iconic 26.2-mile route, with each runner proudly wearing their Shooting Star vests and all in support of the families we care for.

Hannah Bateman, our Challenge Events Co-Ordinator reflected on the success of the day: “What an incredible day. Our 56 runners absolutely smashed it, especially in the heat which made it extra challenging! I feel very lucky to have had the privilege to work with everyone, the positivity, determination, and morale amongst the team has made the journey so special. Not only has Team Shooting Star conquered 26.2 miles, but they’ve also fundraised over £208,000, which is a phenomenal amount. We are all so proud and grateful for the hard work and dedication from Team Shooting Star!”

For many runners, the event was more than just a race; it was a life-changing experience. One of our runners, Lucy Muir shared: “I’m still on cloud nine! The whole experience was beyond anything I could have imagined. The atmosphere, the support, the emotion of the day… it’s something I’ll never forget. Wearing the Shooting Star vest knowing I was part of something so meaningful truly carried me through every mile.”

The support from the Shooting Star cheer squad on the course was felt through cheer points located at Tower Bridge and Embankment, shaking blue pom-poms and cheering as runners passed by, and later gathered for post marathon celebrations at Brewdog, Waterloo to mark the achievements of the day.

Ballot place runner Chris Dormer, who chose to support the charity independently, said: “Sunday was an unbelievable experience, and I was so happy to be supporting Shooting Star. The team should be very proud of the support you offer all the runners. I wasn’t required to fundraise, but I was so pleased I did and would encourage any ballot runners to do the same, I really did feel like I was part of a very special team!”

Another runner, Ian Sutton, echoed the sentiment: “Honestly, it’s something I’ll treasure for the rest of my days. Shooting Star are lucky to have such a dedicated team. If there’s ever a space again, I’d be honoured to run for them.”

With an incredible £208,000 raised and donations still coming in, the funds will make a monumental difference in helping us continue our vital work for families across south-west London, north-west London and Surrey.

Hannah Bateman continued, “We’ve been blown away by the fundraising total and the passion of every person who took part. We’re already looking forward to 2026 and can’t wait to welcome a new team to take on the challenge. Whether you’ve got a charity place or a ballot place, we’d love to have you run with us.”
