A morning of forest fun at the Bushy Tail Tribe
Sixteen siblings joined us at the Bushy Tail Tribe in Chertsey, Surrey, for a fun-filled forest school morning. To begin, everyone had time to explore the site, blowing bubbles, playing cornhole and enjoying the playground. Once everyone had settled in, Tess and Michelle, the Bushy Tail Tribe leaders, gathered the group on log stools for a safety briefing and an overview of the day’s activities.
The first adventure of the morning was a firewood‑collecting walk through the forest, made even more enjoyable by the glorious sunshine. The siblings gathered sticks and branches of all shapes and sizes to use for the fire they’d later build together. After completing a loop around the woodland, they learned how to start a fire using flint and steel, along with Vaseline and cotton wool.

Once the fire was successfully lit using the wood they’d collected, it was time for the highlight of the session – smores! Each sibling roasted their own marshmallow, sandwiched it between biscuits, and relaxed around the fire while enjoying their freshly made treats.

After lunch, the group spent the rest of the afternoon running around in the sunshine and making the most of the facilities before their parents arrived to collect them. It was a wonderfully successful day, filled with special memories for all the siblings.

Jess Handley, Events Manager Intern at Shooting Star, shared: “It was wonderful for the all the children to come together and explore the woodland, play and enjoy the very lovely weather. We all had a fabulous time, toasting smores and popping popcorn kernels, after testing out our fire building abilities. Thank you Bushy Tail Tribe for such a fun morning!”
