Couple raise nearly £7,000 for Shooting Star in memory of daughter’s 10th birthday
A couple have raised £6,745 for Shooting Star after taking on a month-long physical challenge in memory of their daughter, Robyn, who was born on 2 March 2016 and died shortly afterwards.
To mark what would have been Robyn’s 10th birthday, Dom and Amy set themselves the “Racing for Robyn” challenge, themed around the number ten. The aim was both to honour Robyn’s memory and to support Shooting Star, which provided care and support to the family during Robyn’s short life.
Amy, an avid runner, committed to running 10 kilometres every day for 30 consecutive days, starting in February and finishing on Robyn’s birthday. Dom opted for a multi-discipline challenge, completing the equivalent of ten triathlons across March. This meant swimming, cycling or running each day, with distances increasing at weekends to mirror sprint and Olympic triathlon formats.

Amy faced particularly challenging conditions, running through heavy rain, cold temperatures and dark evenings, and even tackling snowy streets during a city break in Copenhagen. Dom benefitted from better spring weather but described one of the toughest weekends as cycling 40 kilometres at dawn before driving to Wales for a wedding, followed by a hilly 10-kilometre run the next day, completed alongside Amy.
Friends and family joined in on various days to offer support, and the challenge gained extra attention when the pair donned a star costume, completing runs together and even taking the costume for a brief swim and cycle.
The couple say they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends and colleagues. The funds raised will help Shooting Star continue its work supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families, while ensuring Robyn’s memory continues to make a positive difference.
