Christopher’s celebrates 20 years

December 22, 2021

On 21st November 2001, Christopher’s, our Guildford children’s hospice, first opened its doors. To commemorate it’s 20th anniversary, staff and children who have been staying at Christopher’s this week held a little celebration to mark the occasion.

Karen Sugarman MBE, our Executive Vice-President, gave a short speech mentioning our founder Julia Lever and Vice-President Michael More-Molyneux and Patron Sarah More-Molyneux and their son Christopher, who the hospice is named after.

Although the celebrations had to be scaled back due to Covid restrictions, no birthday is complete without a cake and staff got to enjoy a beautifully decorated delight made by one of our supporters.

Our Head of Family Support Services, Sarah Hodkinson and Music Therapist, Marion Barton, ensured everyone was feeling celebratory and festive, joining them with instruments to play and carols to sing.

Whilst everyone was gathered it was also the perfect opportunity to announce the winner of the annual Christmas Tree decoration competition.

The trees which were kindly donated by supporters Paul Strank and Hans Anderson, were beautifully decorated by teams at the hospice – and the winner was our Facilities team inspired decorations – complete with pasta ‘tinsel’, food and tools ornaments and even a mop! Congratulations to all teams for the fabulous festive creations!
