Festival fun and spooky goings on this autumn

October 30, 2024

Our monthly drop-in sessions, held at both Christopher’s and Shooting Star House, are an opportunity for families to enjoy some quality time together, catch up with others supported by us and take part in fun themed activities. Not forgetting a chance to delight in a sweet treat or two!

In September, we welcomed supported and bereaved families to Shooting Star House for a morning of festival fun at our annual Septfest event.

To kick off the festival vibe, families had their faces painted by Helen from Shelley’s Laughter Club – each person had their own unique design and smile on their face. If anyone wanted even MORE colour and sparkle, they could help themselves at our DIY glitter tattoo and hair chalk table!

Families then got their craft on, making festival headdresses, sensory musical instruments and beautiful ribbon decorations. The dining room was a hive of activity and colour.

All this activity worked up an appetite for families, which was lucky as we had been treated to an afternoon tea, courtesy of Richmond Hill Hotel, complete with sandwiches, scones and all the cakes you could dream of. This was complemented by our mocktail making station, which allowed families to experiment to their heart’s content with different flavours and smells. To top things off, things got fun (and a bit sticky!) with our very own candyfloss machine, giving everyone a final sweet treat before they headed home.

In October, families didn’t disappoint with their fang-tastic costumes at our Halloween drop-in at Christopher’s.

We had a range of activities for our families to enjoy, from potion-making (a real witch’s brew!), pumpkin decoupage to spider-making and lots of ghoulish sensory gloop and slime to play with.

The spooky music was a hit with some of the young ghouls as we saw them bopping along while tucking into some Oreo biscuits – truly a (trick or) treat!

A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time and expertise to make these events so special for the families we support. They are only possible thanks to your support.
