Wonderful West Byfleet Golf Club celebrate record breaking year of support
On a finals’ day presentation ceremony at West Byfleet Golf Club last weekend, local charities, including Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, were the big winners after members chipped in an incredible record-breaking £45,000 throughout the year.
Golf Captain Terry O’Connor and Lady Captain Susi Mackay Thrower chose to support their local children’s hospice charity with many challenges and events throughout the year, including Terry taking to the skies for a skydive and Suzi triumphantly tackling a triathlon.
One of the biggest fundraisers was a special Celebrity Charity Golf Day, which was complete with a visit from the actual Ryder Cup.
Terry O’Connor said, “Heading into 2022, we continue to face many challenges. However, a great source of inspiration has been the incredible generosity of our members, their friends, and families, towards our fundraising efforts for the 2021 Captains’ Charity, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. We set out to raise £35,000 for the charity and thanks to everybody involved, we had exceeded that target. This has means we had additional funds to distribute to other local good causes.”
Karen Sugarman, Executive Vice-President of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, “We are beyond thankful to Terry and Suzi and everyone at West Byfleet Golf Club for supporting us as their Charity of the Year in 2021. They have gone above and beyond throughout the year with personal challenges such as a triathlon and skydive as well as a hugely successful Celebrity Golf Day which was such a special event. The ongoing support and money raised means so much to us all at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices and means we can continue to be there for families who need us most.”
