As well as continuing to provide end-of-life care and emergency or urgent respite on a case-by-case basis, at a time when the families we support need us most, we want to ensure that they’re still able to access some of the other vital services we provide. Our virtual hospice does just that.
Our virtual hospice means that we can take our hospice service directly to families. Families can access advice, support, counselling and therapies, interact with other families and attend some of the groups and activities we normally run at our hospices:
- Our Family Support Team, in-house nurses, Symptom and Community Nursing Team are at the end of the phone for those who need medical advice, emergency respite, symptom management support, end-of-life care, bereavement support, and benefits guidance.
- We’ve launched a private Facebook group for parents of children who currently use our hospice – this provides families with somewhere to talk to each other and share advice and activities.
- We host several groups and events online (via zoom). This includes groups for supported children, siblings and a Chill and Chat session for families.
- A Memory Day virtual service is being live-streamed on our Facebook page. As we are unable to be together in person, we have a Memory Wall for bereaved families to share a message, photo, memory or poem.
- We’ve created a hub containing useful resources and activities for parents to access whilst they’re self-isolating (please see below).
